Kodi Reader is operated under the Kodi Reader brand by an individual sole trader based in Germany ("Kodi Reader", "we", "us"). Support and legal notices may be sent to olly@kodi-reader.app.
2. The product
Kodi Reader is a macOS application for reading EPUB and PDF documents, saving annotations, and optionally asking questions about reading material through Ask AI. Core reading features are free. Ask AI requires a verified account and available credits.
The downloadable application source code is made available under its stated open-source licence. The hosted Ask AI service, account system, credit balance, website, branding, and associated services are governed by these terms.
3. Accounts
You must provide an email address you are entitled to use and keep your sign-in method secure. You are responsible for activity performed through your account. You may not sell, transfer, share, or create accounts to evade credit, security, or rate limits.
Each eligible verified account receives 25 welcome credits once. Reinstallation, signing out, changing devices, or deleting and recreating local app data does not create another allowance. We may withhold or reverse duplicate or fraudulently obtained grants.
4. Ask AI credits
One credit pays for one Ask AI answer, including a follow-up answer. Purchased credits do not expire and are attached to the account used for checkout. Credits have no cash value, cannot be transferred between accounts, and cannot be redeemed or exchanged except where a refund or mandatory law requires it.
One credit is reserved when a request begins. We return it if the service fails or the request is cancelled before answer text starts. A credit is used when answer text begins, including when you stop the answer afterward. Unresolved reservations are released automatically after five minutes.
5. Prices, checkout, and delivery
Current pack quantities and tax-inclusive prices appear on the pricing page. All purchases are one-time purchases. There are no subscriptions, automatic renewals, or automatic top-ups.
Paddle acts as merchant of record and authorised reseller for paid transactions. You purchase through Paddle and agree to the applicable Paddle Buyer Terms. Paddle collects payment, calculates and remits applicable sales taxes, and issues the receipt. Kodi Reader does not receive or store your complete payment-card details.
Credits are delivered to your signed-in account after Paddle confirms payment to our server. A browser success message alone does not grant credits. If delivery is delayed, keep your receipt and contact support.
6. Refunds, disputes, and reversals
Our Refund Policy explains how to request a refund and how statutory withdrawal rights apply. Paddle processes approved refunds. We do not ask customers to accept a direct payment from us in place of a Paddle refund.
A refund, chargeback, or payment reversal removes the corresponding purchased credits. If some of those credits were already used, the account may have a negative credit adjustment that is offset by later purchases. We may suspend Ask AI access while a payment dispute or suspected fraud is reviewed.
7. Acceptable use
You may use Ask AI for lawful personal or professional reading assistance. You must not:
- interfere with, probe, overload, reverse engineer, or bypass service, authentication, credit, or rate-limit controls;
- use automated means to create accounts, obtain repeat welcome credits, or submit requests at abusive volume;
- submit content you do not have the right to process, or use the service to violate intellectual-property, privacy, or other rights;
- use the service for unlawful, harmful, fraudulent, or deceptive activity.
8. Your content and AI answers
You retain your rights in questions, passages, annotations, and other content you provide. You grant us and our service providers the limited rights needed to transmit and process that content to provide Ask AI, secure the service, and resolve faults.
AI answers can be incomplete, inaccurate, or unsuitable for your situation. Check important information against the original text and reliable sources. Do not rely on Ask AI as a substitute for professional medical, legal, financial, or safety advice.
9. Availability and changes
We aim to keep Ask AI available, but uninterrupted operation is not guaranteed. We may apply rate limits, security controls, maintenance, or temporary restrictions. We will continue to honour valid purchased balances while the service operates and will provide an appropriate remedy when mandatory law requires it.
We may change future pack prices or these terms. Price changes do not reduce credits already purchased. Material changes apply prospectively and will be communicated through the app, website, or account email where required.
10. Account deletion and termination
You can request account deletion in the app. Deletion removes sign-in access and access to unused credits, while reading data stored locally on your Mac remains. Account deletion does not itself request a refund. Contact support about unused purchased credits before deletion.
We may restrict or terminate access for material or repeated violations, fraud, security threats, or legal requirements. This does not remove rights or remedies that cannot legally be excluded.
11. Liability and consumer rights
Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded under applicable law, including liability for intent, gross negligence, injury to life, body or health, or mandatory consumer protections. Otherwise, liability is limited to foreseeable loss typical for the relevant obligation where permitted by law.
Your statutory rights for faulty or non-conforming digital products remain unaffected.
12. Governing law
These terms are governed by German law, excluding conflict-of-law rules, except that consumers retain any mandatory protections provided by the law of their country of residence. Courts are determined by applicable law.
